I will continue to offer talks via Zoom for the forseeable future. However please note that I prefer NOT to do more than one Camera Club talk per week.
My recent range of Zoom presentations for photographic clubs includes:
Photo Art - A Zoom talk that shows the inspiration behind some of my creative photographic artwork, with details of how it is produced. Much of this photographic art is suitable for exhibition or display, and is quite simple to create. This talk is being continuously updated as new work is produced. For a while this has been one of my two main photo club presentations. I gave a version of this talk to the Camversation Group in April 2024.
Abstract Photography - This presentation is a little bit different in style to my other photographic presentations. It discusses why photographers should consider doing abstract work, and how this might have a spin-off into their other day-to-day photographic work. The presentation includes a discussion of what abstract art is, and whether there is truly such a thing as abstract photography. It makes comparisons between abstract art and abstract photography.
I then concentrate on some suggestions about how to create your own abstract images using some simple techniques that possibly haven’t occurred to you before. This includes ideas about what to photograph and gives some examples and ideas that you can try out for yourself.
This presentation was also given to the Camversation Group in January 2025 and to FYV (Find Your Voice) in June 2025. Like all my presentations, it is constantly being revised and updated.
Creative Flower and Plant Photography - my degree-level qualifications include Botany and Physiology, as well as Ecology and Evolution. I taught Biology for many years, and a few years ago I completed a project to photograph the flowers in the National Collections in the East of Scotland for Plant Heritage. For all these reasons this new presentation is a welcome return to my roots. It was it was initially developed to support a project for my own photo club. It starts with how to photograph botanical specimens. before developing this theme with a number of techniques that can lead to the production of more imaginative and creative photo art.
Abstracts, Backgrounds and Beyond - This is a two part presentation that was originally developed for the Camversation Group (November, December 2025). It comprises two stand-alone workshops which last for just over an hour each.
The first is "Multi-Exposure Architectural Abstracts" and shows how in-camera multi-exposures can be processed to produce a final semi-abstract image.
The second is "Working with Self-Created Backgrounds" and demonstrates how to create your own backgrounds for lay-flat images, how to assemble things, and how to work on your final image. Both workshops involve a slide presentation given via Zoom, with elements of Photoshop demonstration, also given via Zoom. Both workshops are available to camera clubs from January 2026.
